Picking stories for my SH workshop application. Wounds we thought, for sure. But then, what other story? Hannah said Salt over Blinding, and Blinding over Bough, and I think she's right, but Salt is 6.5K, and Wounds is 3.6K, and that's too much. Has to be...5.4K or less. So I thought of Flawless, but it's flawed, or Goddess, but no one gets that one, and so it's at least a revision from perfect. SH has Driftwood, and I'm just not quite sure what the protocol is there--Mary Anne said we could use published stories as our application, but what about stories like Driftwood or Firing, which I still think is one of my best, despite them turning it down. I thought of Requiem which is at least probably perfect enough for submission, i.e., wouldn't embarrass me completely. And I keep thinking about it, but as though it's a new thought, which is when I decided it was time to write this post so I didn't forget again.

I haven't ever had a whole Gin and Tonic. I don't really like the taste. But my mom bought Minutemade Limeade, and it tastes like G&Ts, and I really like the taste suddenly, and for a moment there craved someone else drinking them so I could sip from their cup (my favorite way to drink, because that way I don't have to drink the whole thing on my own if I get tired of drinking it. And I did this somewhere, why can't I remember where? I had about half of one before I disliked the flavor too much and gave it back. I hope it wasn't a dream. I always hate getting them mixed up.)

Poor, sad subs page. Just two stories out. ROF finally sent me a BFOD for Church (which I can abbreviate as CCR, but I won't to spare you all.) And Alchemy bounced Listening. *sniffle* and just when I was starting to think of myself as a style monkey. Church needs to be re-read, but much like Firing, it's probably as good as it will get while remaining itself, so I'll probably just tweak a couple of sentences and send it back out. Bough is still in my revision pile. It's actually at the top of my pile, which is probably why I'm not revising anything. I should go dig through my files and bring Taste of Salt out for revisions. It's been about 5 months since I last looked at it, so I should be ready to revise and get it ready for the rest of the markets.

And for those of you reading this on your friends page, I posted three movie review things from months ago, sorry.

Finished up Requiem and posted it on the workshop. I'm hoping it's just a polishing revision away from submitable, but we'll have to see.

I'm still torn about Bough, but I don't have any market open to send it.

Oh! and I was just going to moan about no market for Firing either, except of course, Bough just came back from there. So that's something I should do this week, maybe tomorrow.

I'll have to find the stamps though. I ran out of all the current ones today, mailing bills for my mother. THis doesn't matter for the sub, seeing as I'll just use a couple of them anyways, and I over stamp anyways because I have to estimate, but I have three or four more bills, and the SASE. She should have more current stamps somewhere though.

Rejection from JJA for Bough. It was a good rejection (doesn't work, which means "I read the whole thing, it just didn't float my boat" or something like that.) , with an extra paragraph that I took to be basically that he couldn't keep his disbelief suspended. I think it's just not his taste, so I'm planning to send it out tomorrow--Scifi.com or Asimovs? I think Asimov's. but I'm not sure suddenly.

And to make up for it being in, I've sent firing back out. Meh. Just keeping the sub level constant.

Stupid angel smut has morphed into a story. Falling, it's called now. But I'll find something subtler, never fear. My current story style seems to be stream of consciousness slice of life, albeit very very weird lives--witness goddess, and Firing and Bough. but 500 words since I crawled back out of bed. Damn muse. but it's good stuff. Good muse. Sleep is for the weak.

Well, I scrounged around through a number of stories all day. And got 130 words written on my suicides story, before deciding that it's going to take some serious thought to get the crisis of faith going there and back-burnered it. And then I opened up Bough, which hates me, and at 12:30, probably on the nose, my brain clicked on, and I started writing. 550 words net gain, but I read the whole story at least once, and rewrote things all over the place without changing the SMF word count, so it's probably about twice that. This is just crazy.

Anyways, I've now got new stories up in all three workshop spots, so I'm hoping my brain will switch over to novel for the rest of this month. And while I'm pretty sure this story still isn't finished, I think maybe it's closer to finished. I should be so lucky that it just needs polished and sent out, but it could be that end is in sight. Oh, and speaking of ends in sight--I'm at the median points for both Asimov's and ROF. 68 and 56 days respectively. Which means little, except that Asimov's has been slushing lately--10 pieces in ten days on the Black hole, many dated since I sent mine, so I may have a 'surprise' in the mail tomorrow. Which at least would mean I could send Firing off. And besides, I love it when I stagger pieces such that the medians line up. :)
